I'm Neil Chapman. I live in Leicestershire, and I have been noticing interesting things since 1974.

Pegasus Podcasts is where I put them.

I've spent decades in education, one way or another, which gives you a particular way of looking at things. I'm always trying to find the shape of something, the logic underneath, the reason it works the way it does. I've been writing for longer than I can remember. The two things are probably connected.

The Rules is the first series, a forensic look at the unwritten laws that govern every genre of film and television. Not reviews. Not rankings. Just the architecture underneath, the stuff nobody says out loud but everybody follows.

More series are coming. Different subjects, same obsession: the gap between what a thing looks like and what it actually is.

I make everything here independently. No network, no algorithm, no brief from anyone. Just curiosity and a decent microphone.
